Why Adventure WILD?

At Adventure WILD Summer Day Camp, we believe that authentic learning takes place when children are able to investigate and interact with the world around them.

Nature, art, science, and play are the building blocks that campers ages 4-10 will use to explore the vibrant life and amazing mysteries found in surrounding green spaces. Through thematic and guided activities with experienced educators, your child will laugh, learn, and make memories to last a lifetime.

During sessions 3, 4 & 5 (weeks of July 24 & 31 and Aug. 7 ) we’ll take a Thursday day trip to the other Mazama facility, the Mazama Lodge on Mount Hood! Here, we'll supercharge the Adventure WILD nature, science and arts programming by embarking on scavenger hunts, learning orienteering, identifying alpine plants and animals, and immersing campers in art projects inspired by the mountain scenery.

Not only will your child have an amazing experience at Adventure WILD Summer Day Camp, you'll be supporting a historic educational program here in Oregon: Outdoor School. All summer camp proceeds help send Metro-area sixth graders to this hands-on natural science education program.

About Friends of Outdoor School
Since 2003, Friends of Outdoor School has been dedicated to preserving the Outdoor School (ODS) experience for all Oregon

students regardless of a student's ability, experience, income or family background. They do this by raising funds, gathering

volunteers, and building community partnerships on behalf of Outdoor School.

About the Mazamas
The Mazamas, founded in 1894 on the summit of Mount Hood, is a nonprofit mountaineering education organization.  Mazamas

offers over 700 hikes and 350 climbs annually. Mazamas’ mission is to promote mountaineering through education, climbing,

hiking, fellowship, safety, and the protection of mountain environments. Every love for mountaineering is borne out of a love

for the outdoors, which can only be shaped by positive experiences and understanding of the outdoors. The mission depends

on getting children outside and exploring, but they recognize that the urgency extends far beyond the Mazamas, with the need

to engage all children in formative outdoor experiences.

Since 2012, Mazamas has partnered with Friends of Outdoor School to further our shared goals of providing meaningful,

educational outdoor experiences to youth in the Portland metro area. Adventure WILD Summer Day Camp is an exciting

and evolving piece of this partnership.

About the Mazama Lodge
Built in 1960, the Mazama Lodge is a beautiful, three-story wooden lodge nestled on

US Forest Service land between Timberline Lodge and Government Camp on Mount Hood.

Thanks to the careful stewardship of Mazama members, the Lodge remains a functional

and beautiful site that welcomes thousands of visitors each year for onsite camping and

hostel-style lodging.
